County Commissioner Diana Wasserman-Rubin's announcement that she will not seek re-election in 2010 was unexpected but understandable. Diana has been caring and supportive friend, I know this was not an easy decision for her to make. However, her concerns for her health and for her family's well being must and should come first. I know that you join me in wishing her well. She has given much to our community and we are thankful.

Together with my family, neighbors and friends, and in consultation with residents and leaders throughout our county commission District, it is with humility and great hope that I have announced my candidacy to represent you as your next Broward County Commissioner. We face difficult economic challenges countywide and cannot afford to sit idle waiting for someone else to help us out of this situation. I am running to represent you because Broward needs job creation and business development. We must provide a safer environment for our children and families. We must balance difficult budgets thoughtfully, keeping taxes and fees low even as we work with cities to ensure that communities and businesses succeed. Our foreclosure and unemployment rates are too high. In all these respects and many more, I can make a difference.   I am running for office to make that difference.
As a current City Commissioner, as a member of key county committees, as former Director of Human Services for Broward County, based on 25 years of senior executive service in government, I know what it will take for Broward to succeed again and I want to help make that happen. My recipe for problem solving is simple -- I listen carefully to the residents and then I take their hopes and put them into action plans. I work hard every day to convert those plans into reality. And I stay in touch with residents keeping them informed of progress along the way. I make government work for the people I serve, never the other way around. It’s a recipe that has always worked for me. I'm asking for the chance to put it to work for all of us.

In the days ahead, I look forward to holding a discussion with you about making a better Broward County. Please visit my website at www.AngeloCastillo.com where I will continue to keep you informed as this campaign unfolds. Best wishes to you and I look forward to our many conversations. Broward County's best days still await us.
